"Smuggling is a Serious Crime"

JAKARTA - Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty said, Australia along with Indonesia sees the practice of human trafficking as a serious crime. Moriarty also said that the perpetrators of the crime shall be punished for his actions.

"Australia and Indonesia considers human trafficking as a crime is very serious. We work closely with Indonesia to prosecute human smugglers," said Moriarty told reporters at the Shangri-La, Thursday (11/04/2013).

According to him, if there is a trespasser entered Australian territory to the territory of Indonesia, it shall be dealt with smugglers Indonesian law. Moriarty also recognize a lot of Australians who enter Indonesia legally and illegally.

"When they go to Indonesia (from Australia) this should be dealt with laws and regulations of Indonesia. We sincerely welcome cooperation with the Indonesian legal action, especially with the Police, Immigration, Mr. Joko Suyanto. We also have a cooperation framework that is Bali process, "he said.

Moriarty added that the existence of the Bali Process is critical to address human trafficking incidents on a regional basis. Australia are desperate to increase its cooperation with Indonesia in the field of combating human smuggling.
