BEIJING - China's former Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun, who had just been indicted for corruption cases, intend to change his lawyer. The decision was taken after prosecutors could not guarantee the safety of Liu's death sentence.
"He asked me to ensure he would not sentenced to death. Yet I can not do that," the family said Liu, Gao Zicheng, as quoted by the Beijing Times, Thursday (04/11/2013).
Liu also choose to use the services of an attorney in addition to Gao for his side in court. But China's law enforcement agencies have not provided further news on the case.
As is known, Ms. Liu was accused of conspiring with a businessman named Ding Shumiao to earn illegal income worth billions of yuan. Liu also claimed to receive funding of 60 million Yuan, or approximately Rp94 billion (Rp1.567 per Yuan).
Under Chinese law, the death penalty can be imposed on a fund that receives a bribe of 100 thousand Yuan (Rp156 million). Funds received Liu is clearly very large, and because it is difficult for Liu to escape the death penalty.
